On 20 January 2020, following proposals by the Government and the Commissioner for Personal Data, the Legislative Council Panel on Constitutional Affairs met to discuss proposed reforms to the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap 486).
The proposed reforms are significant and represent an enhancement to the level of personal data protection offered in Hong Kong, although there is still more that could be done. In this briefing, we consider the Proposals and other possible areas for reform.
